Margo Tamez is a citizen of the Lipan Apache Band of Texas, and the Kónitsąąíí Gokíyaa Ndé (‘Big Water Country People). She is an assistant professor in the faculty of Indigenous Studies at the University of British Columbia, Canada. She is lineally related to the Indigenous founders of El Calaboz Ranchería, located in the Texas-Mexico border(ed) region in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
