Michael Lacapa is of Apache, Hopi, and Tewa descent. He co-authored and illustrated his first book, Ndee' Benadogé'i: Three Stories of the White Mountain Apache Tribe, in 1981 and since then has illustrated and authored fourteen pieces of literature "for the child in us all." He passed away in 2005.
